I do work around the city as a dog sitter. Emerson is a really big golden retriever who lives in Northeast D.C in the NoMa area. He really loves being pet and will bark at me continuously until I pet him. He’s super sweet though and always has an adoring look in his eyes, especially when I’m holding a treat. We were on a stroll in the park here.

The National Portrait Gallery/ National Gallery of Art is my favorite place to study. There’s a beautiful room with natural lighting and the soothing sound of running water. After I finished my assignments for the evening, I saw this lady snapping a bunch of pictures of this beautiful glass display. I think it’s fair to say that she was deeply appreciating this aesthetic.

With the Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich out of the picture, Chick-Fil-A once again reigns supreme, in spite of the inherent homophobia. I was enjoying my free sandwich and I noticed that many people would look in with desire in their eyes, pause for a second, and then walk in to buy some food. This woman was no different, except that I captured her.

I take a Black Aesthetics class taught by Dr. Carr. He gives us a significant amount of material to read. The material we are covering this week comes from Flash of the Spirit, a novel about ancient Africa’s contribution to contemporary studies and appreciation of aesthetics as a branch of philosophy. I snapped this photo of my seat mate in the middle of lecture. She was eagerly looking for the passage being discussed by the professor so she could follow along.

Nintendo raised my generation. I remember when Pokemon, the Game Cube, the Nintendo DS, and the Wii were all the rave. My favorites were Super Mario Bros and Mortal Kombat. I feel like we all get taken back just a little whenever we see characters that emerged in our childhood. Perhaps this man was purchasing a reboot of his favorite video game from elementary school.
